Overview


Securities Law in the United States requires publicly traded companies to file a set of financial statements with the SEC, which is then made available to the public. The price and volume characteristics of publicly trade stocks are also available through third party data feeds.

In addition, because of its systemic risk nature, the banking industry is subject to a set additional legistion. (see banking regulation) In the United States, banks that wish to be insured by the FDIC must file a set of reports of condition and income (call reports) with the FDIC, which are also publicly available.
