Channels
Overview
the channels app lets you app message queues to your workspace so that you can view messages and participate in the
discussion occurring on that channel. A message queue (or channel) is a set of messages from users who are granted
rights to participate in the channel. When a user posts a message to the channel, all users who have rights
to the channel can view the message if the channel is added to their channels app.
Adding a Channel
To be able to view a channel in your channels app, you need to add the channel to your app. In addition, you
need to have been granted rights to participate in the channel. Each channel is created by a user, using
the
queues app. When a queue is created, it
is assigned a unique id. To add a channel to your channels app, you need the id of the channel you are
subscribing to.
Once you have the id, open the control panel by clicking the open controls link. This will open a form, with
a name and an id field. Enter the id of the channel you wish to subscribe to, and give it a name that you
will be able to recognize. Then click the add button, this will add the channel to your list of subscriptions.
Viewing/Posting a Channel
Once you have a list of channels, you can view a channel simply by clicking the channel bookmark in the left
panel. This will open the channel in the center pane of the channel app.
You have several options in terms of posting to the channel. The first option is to simply post some text.
You can just enter in a line of text in the text box at the top of the channel and click the add link.
This will add the text as a message in the channel.
If you need additional space or editing capabilities, you can click the area link, which will open a larger
text area you can write. Or you can click the editor link, which will open a more sophisticated text area.
If you wish to post components, such as a chart or a table, you can open a components section by clicking the
add section link. This will open a section window, which will be selected by default. You can drag and drop
components directly to this section by opening your widgets toolbox and dropping into this area. Likewise, if
you have some components in your clipboard, you can just paste them directly in by clicking ctrl-V.
