Overview

The formal definition of a topology includes a set of sets called open sets which help to defined the topology. The open sets must be such that the union of any collection of open sets results in an open set.

Metric Space Definition

When a metric {% d(x,y) %} is defined on the space, an open set can be defined as a set which is a neighborhood of each of its points.
