Overview

An ensemble is a collection of states for which a given system can be in. The number of states is denoted by {% \Omega %}. Typically, an ensemble is defined by a given constraint, the most common being that the ensemble is defined by a given energy {% E %}, and then the number of possible states with the given energy is given by {% \Omega(E) %}.
