Page Media
Overview
Blog media refers to media (images, video, audio) that you save with a blog. Typically you save media with
a blog for one of two reasons.
- you wish to embed the media in your page
- you want to control permissions on the media
Media Toolbox
Media attached to a blog is accessible through the
media toolbox. Once your toolbox
is installed, you can view the media associated with a blog, by opening the blog, then opening the blog media
toolbox. This will open a toolbox dialog that will list your media. The media drop down box lists media types.
To view media of a given type (image, video), select the type from the drop down box.
Adding Media
To add new media, open the media page from the blog media toolbox. The page is accessible through the linke
labeled "blog media". After clicking the link, you will open a page which lists all the media associated with
the blog. At the top of the media page is an upload box. To upload new media, click the select file button.
Then after having selected a file, click the upload button. Your new media should be listed on the page.
Media Permissions
When media is added to a blog, it is given a long scrambled id such as "e590f6ad618de6ab70cdbb55a06e7ad1".
The media cannot be accessed without the id, therefore it is quite hard to get access to any media saved on
the davinci servers. However, once a individual gets the media id, they can access and/or download the media.
If you have media that needs further security, you can click the secure checkbox when uploading the media.
Only users who have been granted permissions to view the blog can then view the media.
This extra level of security comes at a cost. Media that is secured, is slow to download, because the
users security rights must be checked before it is sent.
Media associated with a blog can be used in other blogs, however, the rights to view the media are
checked against the blog that the media is attached to. Typically, you will not want to do this,
however, if you want to manage security on a set of resources, you can create empty blogs to hold
the media, and then manage the permissions on those resources.
Deleting Media
You can delete media from the media page by clicking the delete link next to the media link. Additionally,
when you delete a blog, all media attached to that blog is deleted. Typically this is the reason you will
want to attach media to a blog instead of using your default media locker. If the media is only used in one
blog, it will be deleted from the server when the blog is deleted.
