Polling Selection Bias

Overview

Selection bias occurs because some individuals decline to take part in the poll. If the individuals who declined were completely random, this would not have an effect on the results of the poll. If the decision to take or not take a poll are somehow correlated with the results of the poll, then this creates a bias in the polling results, known as selection bias.

Fixes

  • Weigted Sample - weighted sampling weights the answers received in a poll differently, based on the characteristics of the individual answering the questions.
