Investment banking is a type of financial service that helps company's manage their finances, in particular they offer the service of raising capital. This is done typically by underwriting a firms securities, and then selling them to their clients. (this is the primary market) Once sold into the primary market, the securities can then be sold within the secondary market. (common market)
